Integrated Studio Project 3
Ideating, Designing, & Curating a Space to Solve Real World Issues
This is our final Integrated Studio Project (InSP) for Year 2 & is our heaviest module yet. Working closely with 2 other modules we took during Year 2 Semester 2 (CoDet2 & IBS), we were tasked with re-designing a dementia home, Apex Harmony Lodge. From the client brief & (limited) site visit, we were able to analyse the site condition, surrounding area context, weather conditions (with the help of our colleagues in the Architectural Tech & Building Systems course) and identify what design opportunities lay within the site.
From there, we created Design Proposals, Briefs, draft designs, and worked closely with our lecturers to hash out a workable design which solves an existing issue in the dementia home. Through the research done, I found a glaring issue with the home - there lacked a variety of spaces/facilities which promote holistic development & physical/mental movement. My project focuses on solving that issue exactly through a variety of interconnected spaces spanning the 1st level of the home which encourage the residents to engage with themselves, others & the environment around them - spaces like exercise areas, an R&R garden, integrated lounges & reading areas are all part of my design.
